Since the Philippines is one of the countries most prone to natural disasters, disaster preparedness is key to safety and survival.

This is why DZMM's Red Alert tapped EVEREADY, the country's leading brand of batteries and flashlights, for its annual Emergency Expo 2015 held recently at the Amana Water Park in Pandi, Bulacan.

For the second straight year, EVEREADY joined ABS-CBN and DZMM's Red Alert, a program focused on emphasizing the value of always being prepared for emergency situations in light of the government's warning that the country is overdue for a major earthquake.

According to Claire Guevarra, senior brand manager of EVEREADY, the partnership stresses the importance of information dissemination in preparing the communities for any calamities. The company echoed its thrust “ligtas ang may alam” during the event.

“This program is timely as the country now experiences typhoons with the coming of the rainy season,” Guevarra said. “EVEREADY’s mission is to educate the public on how important it is to know what steps to take in case of natural calamities. With our partnership with ‘RED ALERT,’ we are able to ensure that our messages reaches the public.”

She added, “The country is prone to natural disasters—which is why we are glad to be part of this meaningful event. Both Red Alert and Eveready share one vision, which is to ensure the safety of the family and community. That’s what we are doing right now.”

This year, the government has urged Filipinos to prepare for the ‘Big One’.  They are referring to a long-overdue earthquake, which is expected to generate a magnitude of 7.2, almost as strong as the one that hit Nepal just recently. If this happens, parts of cities like Quezon City, Pasig, Marikina, and Paranaque, that are located along the West Valley Fault can be devastated.

The West Valley Fault, as shown by the Valley Fault System Atlas—a collection of detailed large-scale maps that illustrates the areas that are near an earthquake fault—covers almost all cities in Metro Manila running from Paranque to San Del Monte in Bulacan.

“The Philippines is prone to natural disasters whether due to typhoons, volcanic eruptions, or earthquakes. While this is inevitable, what’s left for us is to know how to take action especially when the emergency arrives,” said MJ Tiquia, brand activations manager of EVEREADY.

“With this, EVEREADY believes that ‘Sa Bawat Pamilya, Saanman, Kailanman, Dapat Laging Handa.”

RED ALERT is a weekly program of DZMM hosted by ABS CBN News reporter Atom Araullo, geosciences expert Dr. Mahar Lagmay and rescue doctor Ted Esguerra.

Aired every Sunday from 10:00 am to 11:00 Am, RED ALERT discusses a broad range of topics, covering areas such as natural and man-made hazards, disasters and other phenomena.

Aside from sharing basic information, the program also teaches viewers practical and proactive ways of dealing with calamities such as earthquakes, floods, fire, storms, and landslides, and other life-threatening incidents, with the help of experts from both private and public sectors.

DZMM’s Red Alert and Eveready launch disaster preparedness campaigns through the Emergency Preparedness Caravan program with an aim to help improve every resident’s readiness, prepare the community for disasters, and increase awareness on other related emergencies. This is conducted in various barangays and key cities, in partnership with the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMC).
